INTERNATIONAL TRADE LAW

The ITL Committee focuses on the following practice areas: Trade Law, International Investment Law, Competition Law, Consumer protection, International Trade Finance, Customer and Trade Facilitation, Cross-border Trade Negotiation, Trade Dispute Resolution and Regional Integration, amongst others.

The ITL Committee is in alignment with NBA-SBL’s, broad mission of promoting professional development of Nigerian commercial lawyers, raising the level of business law practice in Nigeria, and upholding the continuing legal education mandate of the Nigerian Bar Association through structured training sessions, and publications aimed at realising its objectives which include the following:

a. To facilitate knowledge sharing events, policy reform, networking, collaboration with all stakeholders and advocacy in relation to international trade activities within the African Continental Free Trade Area and the World;

b. To identify and recommend for dismantling barriers to trade;

c. To identify how law reform can enhance intra-Africa and global trade and provide for influencing desired policy reforms;

d. To support the ease of doing effort as a means of improving international trade in Nigeria and the African continent;

e. To promote efforts towards the emergence of efficient independent dispute resolution mechanism in international trade;

f. To promote consumer protection and competition laws within the context of international trade;

g. To identifying and promote access to opportunities in international trade;

h. To engage in capacity building activities aimed at deepening the knowledge of members in international trade.
