On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), in collaboration with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), hosted a private sector sensitization event. This event focused on the ongoing efforts to update and improve Nigeria’s regulatory environment through the Omnibus Bill 2.0, building on the foundations laid by the Business Facilitation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2022 (BFA 2022).
Held at the NESG headquarters, the event brought together key stakeholders from the private sector, government bodies, and legal practitioners. The NBA-SBL, PEBEC, and NESG shared insights on the Omnibus Bill 2.0, which aims to streamline further the ease of doing business in Nigeria by eliminating regulatory bottlenecks and creating a more conducive business environment.
NBA-SBL was represented by Ozofu ‘Latunde Ogiemudia, the Chair of SBL and Co-chair of the joint SBL and PEBEC steering committee for the BFA 2.0, along with Desmond Ogba, the Team Lead for the steering committee. Key speakers at the event included Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business and Chair of the PEBEC steering committee for the BFA 2.0, Dr. Tayo Aduloju, CEO of NESG, and Mrs. Toyin Bashir, Chair of SBL’s Committee on Regulatory Engagement and PEBEC Lead on the steering committee.
The event was a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to reform Nigeria’s regulatory framework, ensuring that laws governing business operations remain dynamic, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the private sector. By fostering a more business-friendly environment, the Omnibus Bill 2.0 is expected to further improve Nigeria’s rankings in global ease of doing business indices, attract foreign investments, and stimulate economic growth.
